Sodium tripolyphosphate, chemical name, also known as sodium triphosphate, sodium pyrometaphosphate, pentasodium triphosphate, pentasodium phosphate or pentasodium.
Sodium tripolyphosphate is an inorganic substance with chemical formula na5p3o10. It is a kind of amorphous water-soluble linear polyphosphate. Sodium tripolyphosphate has two crystalline states: type I (high temperature type) and type II (low temperature type). The difference lies in their different bond lengths and bond angles. Their chemical properties are the same, but the thermal stability and hygroscopicity of type I are higher than that of type II.
Sodium tripolyphosphate has the functions of chelation, suspension, dispersion, gelling, emulsification and pH buffering. It can be used as main additives of synthetic detergent, industrial water softener, tanning pretanning agent, dyeing additives, organic synthesis catalyst, industrial dispersant and food additives.
In concrete, sodium tripolyphosphate forms a protective film by complexing with calcium ions on the surface of cement particles, which hinders the normal hydration process of cement and thus achieves the retarding effect. The general content is 0.1% ~ 0.3% of the cement content, the specific content needs to be determined according to the engineering requirements and experiments.

Application

1. Improve the strength of concrete: sodium tripolyphosphate can promote the hydration reaction of cement and generate more gel substances, so the strength of concrete can be significantly improved.
2. Extend the flow time of concrete: due to the action of sodium tripolyphosphate, the gel time of concrete will be extended, which can make concrete easier to handle and more convenient for construction.
3. Improve the durability of concrete: sodium tripolyphosphate can stabilize the structure of the internal compounds of concrete, thereby improving the weathering resistance of concrete, acid, and alkali erosion resistance.
